Re-grading every NFL team's 2017 offseason

Few paid much attention last March when the Minnesota Vikings signed Case Keenum to a one-year contract for $2 million -- but that move became one of the most pivotal of the 2017 season. Here's how every team's offseason acquisitions look now.

Chiefs hire McCullough off USC staff to coach RBs

The Chiefs hired Deland McCullough off the staff at Southern California on Friday to coach their running backs, taking the place of recently promoted assistant coach Eric Bieniemy.

Adam Teicher ESPN Staff Writer

The NFL's top-rated passer will play in the Pro Bowl after all. The Chiefs' Alex Smith was named to the AFC team in place of Philip Rivers. Smith, after his best NFL season, deserved to be in the Pro Bowl all along and not as an alternate.

The Chiefs hired Deland McCullough as their new running backs coach replacing Eric Bieniemy, who was promoted to offensive coordinator. He coached running backs in college last season at USC and before doe six seasons at that Indiana. He also played in the NFL with the Bengals and Eagles.

The Kansas City Chiefs are hiring USC running backs coach Deland McCullough, McCullough confirmed to me tonight. The hire was first reported by USCFootball.com. McCullough thrived both in player development and recruiting for the Trojans after coming to USC from Indiana.

New Bears coach regrets 'failure' of Chiefs' loss

New Bears coach Matt Nagy says he "felt terrible" for his offensive playcalling during the Chiefs' loss to the Titans, and says he'll learn from his mistakes.

Adam Teicher ESPN Staff Writer

Matt Nagy thanked Alex Smith, among others, at the Chicago news conference introducing him as the new head coach of the Bears. "He was special to me,'' Nagy said. "He helped me grow as a coach, as a person, as a leader.''

Matt Bowen ESPN Staff Writer

From a scheme/development perspective, Matt Nagy's offense is a positive for Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky. Think of the core west coast concepts in Nagy's playbook. That's the quick throws on routes breaking inside of the numbers. Timing and accuracy. Get the ball out. And Nagy will utilize Trubisky's mobility in the passing game. Play-action, boot and sprint. Plus, Trubisky is a really good fit for the Spread/RPO concepts we saw in Kansas City this season. Lot of movement and creativity there to generate open throwing windows. This is a modern NFL offense that should lead to production and a jump in development for Trubisky.
