The Cowboys have added Ken Amato as a defensive staff assistant, which moves the team closer to finalizing Jason Garrett's staff. Amato worked with the Cowboys' special teams last year through minority coaching fellowship program. He spent nine seasons (2003-11) with the Tennessee Titans as a long snapper. He replaces Turner West, who took a job at Austin Peay.

Barnwell: Offseason moves to improve every NFC team

Seattle has big decisions to make on the Legion of Boom. The Saints need to lock up Drew Brees. The Vikings need to sign a quarterback. Here are five offseason moves to improve all 16 NFC teams.

The Cowboys will name Doug Colman as their assistant special teams coach as they close in on finalizing their 2018 staff. Colman spent four seasons as the assistant special teams coach with the Houston Texans. The Cowboys promoted Keith O'Quinn to special teams coordinator when Rich Bisaccia left to join Jon Guden's Oakland Raiders staff earlier in the off-season. Colman had a five-year NFL career as a linebacker.

The Cowboys are expected to name Doug Nussmeier as tight ends coach, according to sources. Nussmeier was the offensive coordinator at Florida last season. He has also been the offensive coordinator at Michigan and Alabama. He had a five-year NFL career as a backup quarterback with the New Orleans Saints and Indianapolis Colts. He was the quarterbacks coach for the St. Louis Rams for two seasons when offensive coordinator Scott Linehan was head coach. Like Linehan, he played collegiately at Idaho.
