Damarious Randall keeps talking about the Browns winning out and getting help to reach the playoffs. He even mentioned being the fourth seed if they can overtake the Steelers and Ravens to win the AFC North: "If we win out, I mean they just better not let us in the playoffs, I'll tell you that. Because the world was shocked when the Cavs came back from 3-1 … "

Browns RB Nick Chubb doubled his previous career high with six targets in Week 14. Chubb has now seen at least three targets in four consecutive games after totaling seven during his first nine games. Coupled with an average of 18.3 carries per game since Week 7, this increase in receiving work for Chubb solidifies him as one of the league's few workhorse running backs.

Growing Browns refuse to give up playoff dream

While the youthful, exuberant Browns are talking up their minuscule playoff hopes, the reality is their newfound confidence is well-earned.

Mayfield, Browns send Panthers to fifth straight loss

Baker Mayfield outplayed Cam Newton, Jarvis Landry caught a touchdown pass and ran for another score and the Cleveland Browns damaged Carolina's playoff hopes with a 26-20 win Sunday over the Panthers, who dropped their fifth straight.

In his last two halves of play -- second half in Houston, first half vs. Carolina -- Baker Mayfield has thrown for 527 yards -- 32-for-40 with two touchdowns and one interception. Rating for the two halves: 135.4. Both of his incompletions today (8-for-10) were drops.

Baker Mayfield threw for 176 yards and one touchdown in the first half, and Cam Newton threw for 185. Neither defense seems to have an answer for the other quarterback in a 17-17 game.

Tremendous accuracy on the deep throw by Baker Mayfield. Eric Reid never turned aruond, but the ball was thrown perfectly for a 51-yard TD to Jarvis Landry. Receivers and backs sit around a pretend campfire to celebrate. Game tied.

Easy opening drive for Panthers. Browns defense gave up two plays bigger than 20 yards and allowed Carolina to drive 10 plays for touchdown.

Terrance Mitchell returns to the starting lineup at cornerback after he was activated on Saturday. Mitchell had been designated to return when place on injured reserve in early October. He will start in place of Denzel Ward, who is out with a concussion.

Defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi is active after hurting his biceps and having it assessed by two doctors last week. Ogunjobi practiced with a sleeve on his left arm.

Running back Duke Johnson is active and will play against Carolina. Johnson missed two days this week due to personal reasons. Input fantasy lineups accordingly.

As expected, the Browns activated cornerback Terrance Mitchell from injured reserve. Mitchell has been out since he broke a bone in his wrist in early October. To make room on the roster, the team placed tight end Pharaoh Brown (shoulder) on injured reserve.

The injury report for Browns-Panthers shows that CB Philip Gaines (knee) and DT Larry Ogunjobi (biceps) are questionable. JC Tretter (ankle) is also listed as questionable, but he's expected to play.

Panthers coach Ron Rivera said he saw a little of ex-Bears quarterback Jim McMahon in Baker Mayfield, which led Browns interim coach Gregg Wiliams to recall the time he played in a charity golf tournament in Memphis with McMahon. Williams won the friendly wager, and McMahon, who played the round barefoot, angrily tossed his golf bag – with clubs – into a lake by the clubhouse. A few minutes later, Williams watched as McMahon walked into the lake to drag out his bag. "His car keys were still in the bag," Williams said.

Things look good for cornerback Terrance Mitchell to be activated from injured reserve so he can play against the Panthers on Sunday. Mitchell has been out since he broke a bone in his wrist in the fourth game against Oakland. Running back Duke Johnson also returned after missing two days due to a personal matter; he should play Sunday.

Gregg Williams said defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi did a little more in practice Friday, but a decision on whether he can play with a biceps injury probably will be made at game time.
