Knicks coaching candidate David Fizdale was integral to the Miami Heat's success as an assistant and did well in Memphis during his short stint as head coach there. But he was reportedly let go amid an early-season losing streak and a poor relationship with star Marc Gasol. That will likely be a topic of conversation when Fizdale interviews with Knicks management, though one Memphis source with knowledge of the situation says the situation shouldn't be viewed as a demerit for Fizdale. If he's as strong a communicator as Erika Spoelstra says, that will likely go a long way with NYK management.

Stephen A. is a 'Mark Jackson guy' for Knicks (2:08)

Heat coach Erik Spoelstra on Knicks coaching candidate and former Heat assistant David Fizdale: "Fiz is a great fit anywhere. He's a brilliant basketball mind that has exceptional, gold-standard level communication skills. He's one of my best friends. But I say that objectively. I just think he's one of the most talented coaches I've been around. I feel very grateful that we had an opportunity to work together for so long. I just, I hope he goes West (laughs). That's the kind of respect I have for him. I don't want him going anywhere in the East."

Trey Burke and Luke Kornet were named to the All G League third team today. Both players were with the Westchester Knicks this season and also spent significant time with the NBA's Knicks. Westchester's Nigel Hayes was named to the G League's All Rookie team.

Knicks expected to be patient in coaching search (1:09)

Ian Begley ESPN Staff Writer

On the swelling in his elbow that bothered him for significant portions of last season, Kristaps Porzingis said on Saturday that the general feeling is that it has healed well and that there is no need to undergo a surgical procedure to fix anything.

Ian Begley ESPN Staff Writer

Knicks president Steve Mills said Knicks fans have encouraged he and GM Scott Perry to be patient in their rebuild: "We went to a baseball game while we were (in Pittsburgh visiting the Steelers) and we sat next to two guys who were New Yorkers. And they recognized us and all they talked about was wanting us to be patient. ‘Don't try to fix this quickly. Fix it the right way.'"

Ian Begley ESPN Staff Writer

Knicks president Steve Mills says that owner James Dolan is on board with taking a patient approach with the team's rebuild : "Jim has given us the room to be patient which, again, is not something that's been common in this organization. Patience hasn't been one of our biggest attributes here ….I don't have any doubt that he's comfortable with the plan we're on and (that he) wants us to be patient and not do things that are just you know for the quick hit," Mills said last week. My take: this is probably encouraging for Knicks fans to hear but actions will speak louder than words here.

Knicks GM Scott Perry says he's gotten a consistent message from fans of the team who have stopped him on the street in New York City. Perry says those fans say, "‘Hey, (I) like what you guys doing. Stay the course, be patient, don't rush at it. We just want to see a group that's working hard to get to an end goal.' So that's been very heartwarming," the general manager said.

When he spoke to us on Saturday, Kristaps Porzingis reiterated his plans to strengthen other parts of his body during rehab. "I have to come back and be a better player, be stronger… I want to build my body. As much as this sucks, it's also an opportunity for and I'm going to use it a hundred percent."

Sources: Knicks add Woodson, Blatt to search

As the Knicks finalize plans to meet with their top four coaching candidates, they also got permission from the LA Clippers to speak to former head coach Mike Woodson, league sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Scott Perry was asked whether the Knicks view Kristaps Porzingis as a center or power forward: "We're in an era of the NBA, I don't want to call it position-less basketball, but an era where the ability for guys to play multiple positions is key and important. I think the more of those guys you can have on your team, the better. And so wherever he lands … I think right now naturally he fits well at power forward because he's comfortable there from not only the skills standpoint, but a strength standpoint. So we'll see moving forward as we continue to add to this team. I think that will flush itself as we continue (to add) talent to this group."

Ian Begley ESPN Staff Writer

Will the Knicks draft the best player available or by position? Knicks GM Scott Perry: "I think we've got to get the best talent. Internally, we may think one position over another may be needed. But at this time, I think at the end of the day we're going to try to get the very best talent we can get, depending upon where we're drafting. And I'll be fine with that. And then, as we move forward and as you acquire enough talent … then you can start really honing in on okay this year we need a small forward, this year we need a center - whatever the case may be."

Ian Begley ESPN Staff Writer

Scott Perry on some of the qualities the Knicks are looking for in their next coach: "Maybe there's a guy who's been around the league for a long time who generally learned over time to be more open to things that they weren't open to in the past. Or, at least in a reflection of the staff that he wants to bring to help bolster areas that maybe he's not as comfortable with. So we'll vet all that out during the process as we meet with each and every person."

Ian Begley ESPN Staff Writer

Scott Perry on some of the qualities the Knicks are looking for in their next coach: "I have no thought about necessarily disqualifiers but I think being in a place like New York, a candidate is going to need enough experience dealing with all you (media). But, also.... enough coaching experience and enough experience in terms of communicating, developing and (showing) some sort of empowerment of getting guys to buy into a vision and competing at a high level."

Ian Begley ESPN Staff Writer

Steve Mills & Scott Perry say they want a coach who can hold players accountable & get them to buy in. My opinion: Mike Woodson is the last Knicks coach to do both over a sustained period. I wonder if he gets a call.

Ian Begley ESPN Staff Writer

Steve Mills on some traits the Knicks are looking at in a coach: "There's a certain amount of openness to today's NBA, sort of an intellectual curiosity. (Warriors GM) Bob Myers and I talk a lot about this in terms of what it takes to be a coach in the NBA and guys who can absorb all of the things that are different about today's game. The use of analytics, the significance of the physical training and performance there, how you incorporate player development into sort of a holistic approach as to how you coach a team. We've had guys that have had bits and pieces of that. But ultimately if you can find a guy that at least embraces it and understands what he doesn't know and how to have other people support him to bring other things in, I think those things are really important."
