Ian Begley ESPN Staff Writer

Important win for the Knicks on the road in Utah. Tim Hardaway Jr. led NYK with 31 points, knocking down 6 of 7 3-point attempts in a game the Knicks nearly gave away. New York needed this win after losing 11 of its last 14 and coming off of a bad loss in Memphis on Wednesday.

Doesn't get much worse than this for Jeff Hornacek: Knicks give up an offensive rebound off of a missed free throw and then foul a 3-point shooter. NYK was up 10 with two minutes to go and is up just four with 1:40 play.

Interesting to see Jeff Hornacek go to Trey Burke instead of Frank Ntilikina early in the fourth.

Jeff Hornacek has talked often about an opponent eating into a Knicks lead with strong 3-point shooting. Tim Hardaway Jr. just did the same thing for Hornacek's team, knocking down two threes late in the third to give NYK a 7-point lead heading into the 4th.

Knicks lead guards haven't been able to stay in front of Ricky Rubio often tonight. He just created two easy buckets for the Jazz midway through the third and Jeff Hornacek isn't happy about it.

Mitchell drills 3 from the great beyond (0:16)

Strong night for Tim Hardaway Jr., back in the starting lineup for the first time since coming back from a stress injury earlier this month. He has 15 points in 20 minutes for NYK. It will be interesting to see if Jeff Hornacek can play Hardaway more than 30 minutes. He's been on a minutes limit leading into tonight.

The Knicks had a run of poor possessions late in the second quarter and are fortunate to trail by just six against Utah. It will be interesting to see if NYK goes back to Frank Ntilikina in the second half. Jeff Hornacek pulled him after just three minutes in the first half following two turnovers.

Jazz fans still haven't forgotten Enes Kanter asking for a trade. He's gotten booed by the Utah crowd early in the Knicks' game against the Jazz.

The Charlotte Hornets would like engage the Knicks on trade discussions involving All-Star point guard Kemba Walker but New York and Charlotte haven't yet had substantive discussions about a trade involving Walker, per league sources. It seems unlikely at this point that the Knicks will want to meet Charlotte's desired return. Charlotte is hoping a Walker trade returns a good young player or a first-round pick, per ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. The Knicks have first-round draft picks and a promising young player in Frank Ntilikina. But the other part of Charlotte's request is a holdup for the Knicks. Wojnarowski reports that Charlotte appears eager to shed one of its less desirable contracts. That would mean the Knicks would likely need to take on extra salary to acquire Walker, which was something New York was hesitant to do in trading Carmelo Anthony over the summer.
