Hoops royalty leads Way-Too-Early Top 25

Villanova reigns as national champion. How does the field stack up for next season? Here's your first look at the best of the best for next season.

Konate eyes tournament run next year after Sweet 16 exit (0:22)
Bilas: Villanova's guards are the real deal (2:16)
Spellman says Villanova competed at the highest level (0:16)

FINAL: Villanova 90, West Virginia 78 Jalen Brunson goes for 27 points, but Omari Spellman was huge with 18 points and eight rebounds. Key for Villanova in the second half was West Virginia racking up fouls early and ‘Nova taking care of the ball.

The West Virginia press is supposed to be overwhelming. Villanova's quick strike ability was more so tonight, though. Mountaineers never recovered from a two-minute 11-0 run midway through the second half.

Villanova hasn't turned it over since the 11:13 mark of the second half. They've outscored West Virginia by 16 since that point.

Jab-step 3 a few moments ago aside, Omari Spellman has been terrific for Villanova tonight. Two 3-pointers, 12 points, six rebounds, three assists, three blocks.

Jeff Borzello ESPN Staff Writer

Not a banner night for Donte DiVincenzo. Five turnovers, three fouls, just four points. His shot-making has provided a major boost late in the season; not getting it going tonight. West Virginia up six; Villanova has made one field goal in the last 8:35.

Dan Murphy ESPN Staff Writer

James Bolden took a curtain call after hitting a 3-pointer, calling on the West Virginia cheering section for some noise. A slim lead and a monster block from Sagaba Konate have the Mountaineers fired up.

Jeff Borzello ESPN Staff Writer

Villanova up two on West Virginia at the half. Story was fouls and Villanova turnovers. Wildcats coughed it up nine times in the first half — they had averaged 10.4 turnovers in their last 10 games. Only one TO in the last 4:50, though. Outscored WVU by five in that stretch.

Dan Murphy ESPN Staff Writer

Jalen Brunson has carried Villanova through much of a first half without Mikal Bridges by hitting one big jumper after another. Brunson's 16 points in the first half have kept Wildcats from falling behind or getting flustered.

Dan Murphy ESPN Staff Writer

Villanova's red-hot shooting start has cooled a bit, but Jalen Brunson and Co. are still making big shots and have been perfect from the free-throw line thus far.

Jeff Borzello ESPN Staff Writer

Ironically enough, it's not West Virginia with the early foul issues. Donte DiVincenzo and Mikal Bridges both have two fouls for Villanova. Think we'll see a lot of Collin Gillespie the rest of the half.

Jeff Borzello ESPN Staff Writer

Jalen Brunson vs. Jevon Carter. A team that often plays three ball-handlers at once and rarely turns it over vs. Press Virginia. Should be fun.

Dan Murphy ESPN Staff Writer

Smart move by the band. Villanova is getting all the calls tonight. Wildcats and West Virginia tip off from Boston shortly.

Know what will happen in the Sweet 16 before it even happens

What happened in the first two rounds? It was crazy, but we're moving on because the Sweet 16 has arrived. The blue bloods are here, but so are the wild cards, including two(!) 11-seeds. Enjoy the games, but here's what's going to happen this weekend.

Bilas: This Sweet 16 is neither unprecedented nor revolutionary

OK, let's get a few things straight: A revolution is not happening in college basketball. Nor is what is happening in this NCAA tournament unprecedented. We've had crazier tournaments. What isn't crazy is The Bilastrator's order of the 16 remaining teams.
