Talked to an ACC coach about the keys to Clemson's defense. He said the unit's MVP is LB Dorian O'Daniel. "The things they ask him to do, you shouldn't ask one kid to do. They blitz him, play him as a linebacker, play him in man coverage on a slot. We took three or four shots on him thinking it was a matchup we could win, and we couldn't get open."

Alabama safety Minkah Fitzpatrick doesn't see much of a difference between Clemson quarterback Kelly Bryant and former Tigers star Deshaun Watson, who the Tide faced in each of the previous two seasons. "He runs the ball a little bit more than Deshuan," Fitzpatrick said. "They both have strong arms and make good decisions. They don't turn it over."

Unlike the previous two seasons, a national championship won't be on the line when No. 1 Clemson plays No. 4 Alabama in the Allstate Sugar Bowl, but that won't diminish the rematch. "This is the third round," Tide safety Minkah Fitzpatrick said. "It might not be the championship, but it's a championship-caliber game. It's been a heavyweight fight since my freshman season."

Here are all the ways Bama-Clemson III will be different

Alabama as the team with something to prove? No more Deshaun Watson? And Jalen Hurts with another year of experience? While the third installment of this trilogy calls to mind the first two classics, it will actually be very different.

The plays that shaped the College Football Playoff

On the road to the College Football Playoff, one play can often determine a team's fate. A timely kick return here or a defensive stop there can be the difference between being in the top four and being on the outside looking in.
