Temple coach is fired up for the Independence Bowl (1:08)

Adam Rittenberg ESPN Staff Writer

Temple's last four coaches have landed Power 5 jobs, so this will be a very sought-after position. Athletic director Patrick Kraft is highly regarded. If Temple looks internally, defensive coordinator Andrew Thacker is a rising star. Other possible candidates include Alabama co-offensive coordinator/receivers coach Josh Gattis, Mississippi State defensive coordinator Bob Shoop, Michigan defensive coordinator Don Brown, Buffalo head coach Lance Leipold, Boston College co-defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile. Would Temple look at Ohio State defensive coordinator Greg Schiano?

UCF has excelled at making second-half adjustments this season, specifically on defense, and so far in the third quarter the Knights look like a vastly different team. On Temple's first two drives, UCF got an interception and forced a punt. Temple didn't go two straight drives without scoring in the first half.

UCF's Clarke makes a diving INT (0:42)
UCF RB gallops in 32-yard TD (0:40)

UCF trailed Memphis at halftime a few weeks ago after giving up 339 first-half yards. Defensive coordinator Randy Shannon made some good halftime adjustments and Memphis stopped gaining yards at will. He and his staff need to make some major adjustments at halftime tonight, but UCF needs to tackle much better, too, if it wants to come back.

Andrea Adelson ESPN Staff Writer

UCF and Temple combined for 808 yards and 39 first downs in a wild first half, but the story was the way the Owls took a 34-28 lead into halftime. If UCF wants to be a part of the College Football Playoff discussion, performances like the one it had in the first half will do nothing to help the cause.

Temples Russo throws 3rd TD of first half (0:35)
UCF retakes the lead as McGowan rushes in 1-yard TD (0:30)
